Welcome note from Siew Ming Thang, President of PacCALL

Welcome Message from the President of PacCALL

Siew Ming Thang

Warmest welcome to GLoCALL 2021, our 13th International Conference. In view of the current Covid pandemic situation we are holding our conference virtually for the first time. We are pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with HELP University, Kuala Lumpur.

The papers this year will cover presentations from about 80 local and international presenters on various aspects of CALL and Language Education in the form of plenary presentations, concurrent papers, workshops and virtual presentations. We are pleased to be able to get the support of presenters from various countries in the Asia Pacific region, many who have been supporting our conferences on a regular basis. I would like to express my thanks to all presenters for their willingness to participate in our first virtual conference. The knowledge, expertise and experience, you share are particularly crucial at this time when learning has shifted to the virtual paradigm for students all over the world.

Like in previous years, the first day will be reserved for practical workshops which will be conducted by our distinguished plenary speakers namely Professor Dr. Deborah Healey, Professor Dr. Thomas Robb and Professor Gordon Bateson. In addition to that, we are privileged to have three other distinguished plenary speakers: Associate Professor Dr. Mark Pegrum, Professor Dr. Wong Su Luan and Associate Professor Dr. Pramela Krish.

I would also like to express my very special thanks to Gordon Bateson, the person responsible for managing the online platform, who have to deal with our multifaceted inquiries and requests. My thanks also go to other committee members who have worked closely with me in organizing this year’s conference. My special thanks also go to our joint organiser, the Staff of HELP University, Kuala Lumpur, particularly the staff of the Faculty of Education and Languages for their continual support and collaboration.

With that, I would like to wish all of you, a productive and memorable conference.
